Introduction to Jiu Jitsu
Our Introduction to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu course with Coach Stewart Sackett covers the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu for sport and self-defense two days a week (see the calendar) over an 8 week period. The course is designed for students who have little or no previous knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Students can join the introduction course at any point during the cycle, but are encouraged to start the program at the beginning. The fundamentals covered during the cycle are skills that every practitioner continuously works on throughout their journey, therefore completing the course more than once is also encouraged.
It is not necessary to own a Gi in order to attend a trial class; however a Jiu-Jitsu or Judo Gi will ultimately be an essential tool and should be purchased as soon as possible. Gi’s should be in good condition and cleaned after every class session. Other protective or supportive equipment may be worn but is not necessary.
Many individuals say “I’ll start Jiu-Jitsu once I am in shape.” However, the best way to get in shape for Jiu-Jitsu is to do Jiu-Jitsu. The best way to start is to simply show up and be ready to learn – join us on the mats today!
